This year’s Co-operative Netball Superleague Grand Final will take place on Saturday 15th May at the Nottingham Trent FM Arena, and the top four teams in the league are all battling to secure their place.

Likely contenders to reach the Grand Final include Surrey Storm, TeamBath, Hertfordshire Mavericks and Manchester based, Northern Thunder.

Top of the league table is Surrey Storm. Having joined the league this season, the Surrey Sports Park based team is captained by England player Tamsin Greenway and England team mate Rachel Dunn is Goal Shooter. This season Dunn has scored on average 43 goals per game, the league average is 15.

Tying with Surrey Storm on 22 points are last year’s champions TeamBath. Having lost two of their winning team players to rival teams at the start of the season; Rachel Dunn transferred to Surrey Storm and Sara Bayman moved North to Northern Thunder; the three out of four Grand Final winners are eager to retain the title.

Fighting to secure 3rd and 4th place is Northern Thunder and Hatfield based, Hertfordshire Mavericks. Northern Thunder gained the experience and talent of England double-act Sara Bayman and Jade Clarke this season. The England players have strengthened the team’s already strong shooting circle; ex-England international Karen Greig and England National Excel Athlete Kathryn Turner are proving a formidable force as Northern Thunder currently sit 3rd in the league having finished 7th last season on just 12 points. Hertfordshire Mavericks are captained by England Co-Captain Karen Atkinson and won the 2007-2008 season, beating Loughborough Lightning 43-39.

England Netball’s Chief Executive Paul Clark is anticipating an electrifying performance; “This year’s Co-operative Netball Superleague Grand Final is shaping up to be one of the most exciting games we’ve ever had in Netball Superleague. With newcomers Surrey Storm making their mark at the top of the table and Northern Thunder climbing their way up into the Play-Offs it’s opening the competition to all kinds of possibilities-it’s looking to be the best Grand Final we’ve ever had and I wish every team success in securing their place.”
